The UK file is larger than its print size needs because the UK online service rejects digital photos smaller than 600 × 750 px. If an online form asks for a different pixel size, download the photo and adjust it in the resizer, keeping the aspect ratio locked.

What this tool does, and what you still need to get right

It crops your photo to the exact shape and size, shows guides for the top of the head, eye line and chin, and lays out print copies. It does not replace the background or check compliance. The photo you start with has to meet the rules, and most rejections come from the photo itself, not the crop:

  • Background: stand in front of a plain, light wall, with no pattern, shadow or other people. The UK asks for cream or light grey; the US and most others ask for white or off-white.
  • Lighting: even light on your face and no shadows behind you. Face a window rather than standing beside it.
  • Expression and glasses: neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open. The US has not allowed glasses in passport photos since 2016, and the UK only allows them in rare cases.
  • Recent: taken in the last six months, without filters or beauty mode.

Printing at the right size

Sheets come as a JPEG for photo labs and as a PDF for home printing. When you print the PDF, choose Actual size or 100 percent in the print dialog, not Fit to page, and measure one photo with a ruler before cutting. A 4×6 inch photo print is usually the cheapest and sharpest option, since lab paper is the same glossy stock passport offices expect.

Questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Cropping and the print sheet are made in your browser, and the photo isn’t stored anywhere.

Will my photo definitely be accepted?

Nobody can promise that except the issuing office. The tool gets the size and framing right; lighting, background, expression and image quality are up to the original photo. Check your government’s official photo guidance before submitting.
