Where SMS codes work well

Text messages reach people who don’t want to open a website or fill in a form. A pre-typed message removes the hardest part, remembering the exact keyword, so this works well for:

• Text-to-join lists: “Text JOIN to get offers”.
• Competition entries at events or on packaging.
• “Text us when you arrive” signs for collections and deliveries.

Phone number format

Use the full international format with the country code, like +15551234567. A local number without it may work for people in your country but fail for visitors with foreign SIM cards. Short codes, such as a five-digit marketing number, work as they are.

What the person sees

On iPhone and Android, the camera shows a prompt to send a message. Tapping it opens Messages with the number and text in place, and nothing is sent until they press Send. Standard text rates apply to them, which is worth mentioning for international audiences.
